A Conversation with the Country Mouse

Country Mouse

What is your name’ and the name of your business?

My name is Helen and my business is Country Mouse.

Where are you based?

I am based in Wiltshire.

How did you get the idea for your business?

I got the idea for my business over a period of time. First I am a country girl. I am not a fan of big towns or cities. Secondly I burnt out from teaching. I set up a country mouse to get my life back on track. My business grew from there. I was always going to sell wool throws and socks  but it has grown and adapted over time. I also wanted to sell wool and natural fibres as they are beautiful and sustainable.

What is the favourite part of your business?

My favourite part of business has to be hearing from customers that they love their purchases.

Which is your most favourite product you sell?

I love everything I sell!! If I have to choose one thing it has to be the wool throws with the sheep on them.

What is one thing we don’t know about you?

One thing you don’t know about me, I have a Haflinger horse. I travelled around the world on my own with a lonely planet guide book in my 20’s.

What is the biggest thing you have learnt whilst in business?

The biggest thing I have learnt in business is to never be afraid of change. Always be willing to adapt.

What one thing could you not live without?

One thing I couldn’t live without, I guess I am supposed to say my husband but I couldn’t live without access to the countryside or caffeine!

Which is your favourite event of the year?

My favourite event of the year has to be one of my local shows, Gillingham and Shaftesbury show. Its only one day, really friendly and great atmosphere.

Shout out to your favourite brand?

I have far too many brands that I love, Cavallo Lusso as she sells amazing coats and I buy far too many of them.

What is your favourite animal?

Favourite animal is a horse.
